Many new devices are now equipped with GPS and other location capabilities, which has significantly increased the adoption of LBS applications. Our panel of leading device companies will explore how new technologies fueled by innovative capabilities are influencing expanded market adoption of LBS and what this means for developers committed to developing great new apps and to end-users who are looking for the latest and greatest in location-based services. The panel will be moderated by Hugh Fletcher, an LBS industry veteran who has worked across several carriers, app developers, and service providers.
Topics to be addressed include:
• Which apps and business models are making the most money in the LBS space?
• Can you monetize LBS apps today without GPS/AGPS?
• What types of location technologies support different LBS applications?
• Are PNDs going away or will connected-PNDs give this technology a second wind?
• What types of LBS apps are the most popular on your leading devices?
• What categories of LBS apps show the greatest potential for growth?
• Do you think the number of devices per individual user will go up or down over the next few years?
• Is LBS well-suited for MIDs, Netbooks, etc., or are all devices ‘not’ created equal?
Do you have additional topic ideas for the panel? Please submit your suggestions to lbs_april_2010@wca.org
