Each year, on hundreds of campuses across the country and in thousands of communities around the world, one event unites millions of total strangers in the global fight against cancer. That event is the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life and is returning to Yale University once again this year. The “Relay,” as it is called, is the Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event and raises over 400 million dollars annually to support the ACS mission of research, education, advocacy, and patient services.
But the Relay For Life is more than a fundraiser – it is an overnight festival of hope, a place to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against the disease that has caused too much pain for far too long. During the event, teams of friends, faculty, and community-members gather around the track and walk throughout the night. The goal is to have one member of each team on the track at all times throughout the event (the “Relay” part), but much of the fun takes place off the track in what is at once a powerfully moving vigil, massive fundraising event, and crazy all-night dance party.
The Relay For Life of Yale University was first held in 2005, and since then it has raised over $750,000! This year, as we descend once again on Payne-Whitney Gym on Saturday, we hope to better last year’s mark and add another $100,000 to this total!
Join us this year for what will surely be the best Relay season ever. The experience is unforgettable, the sense of achievement rewarding beyond imagination.
Sign up today to become a part of the Relay phenomenon. With your help, we can achieve our common goal: a cancer-free future.
