ARE YOU HERO, OR ARE YOU PRINCESS?
You are cordially invited to the 2nd Annual Iron Stomach Triathlon and BBQ on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Lake Anza in Tilden Park! This event is a race with the usual components of a triathlon, but with a unique twist - 1) after the swim, you must eat Krispy Kreme doughnuts; 2) after the bike, you must eat a Double-Double animal style and a side of fries from In-N-Out; and 3) after the run you have to chug some beer! Following the race, we will have a BBQ at the park.
This event will be shorter than a traditional sprint triathlon. We will cap the distances to 400m swim, 16km bike, and 5 km run*. We will have two categories: Hero and Princess. If you don't think you can finish the race yourself, you are allowed to gather one or more friends and form a relay.
REMEMBER: If you regurgitate your food/beer before the finish line, you are disqualified from the official race! After you cross the finish line...do what you want! Race and train accordingly.
BONUS: In addition to the race and BBQ we will have a Krispy Kreme doughnut eating competition. This year's competition will feature a 6 doughnut speed qualifying round to seed the final spots. Finalists will then go doughnut by doughnut each round until one person stands. Finals order will be the reverse of the speed qualifying round finishing order (fastest qualifier has the advantage of eating last each round).

Tentative Course and Race Info
====================
Start time will be between 11am and noon. Please be ready to race at that time. Expected finish time should be in the ~1-2 hour time frame depending on how much you enjoy yourself.
Start/T1/T2/Finish will be located at the Buckeye campground near Lake Anza in Tilden Park. The swim course will likely be a loop or two in Lake Anza. A doughnut distribution center will be set up right outside the Anza swim area. A 400 yd or so run to the T1/T2 will follow. The bike course will leave out of T1 and go on Wildcat towards Inspiration point, which is the turnaround point back to T2 where you will pick up your burger and fries. Then you will follow out of T2 on a quick 2-3 mile out and back before getting your beer. You chug and sprint to the finish on the other side of T1/T2.

Fees
===
We are going to separate fees for the race, BBQ and t-shirt.
[1] Individual Racers- We need to collect $25 from anyone who wants to race to cover beach fees and race food. Princess and Hero divisions cost the same. Consider it a perk of being a hero!
[2] Relay Racers- Team fees are $25 + $10(N-1), where N = number of people on your team, ie, $10 more dollars for each additional person (for example a two person relay is $35, three person is $45, etc). Your team is going to get the same amount of food as the Hero though. Again, consider being a Hero!
[3] BBQ - $10/person to cover food, drinks, and picnic fees.
[4] T-Shirt- $10 for a commemorative t-shirt. Order by 5/1/10 to guarantee a shirt. Some may be available for sale on race day, but no promises.
[5] Doughnut eating competition - $5 cash ante on race day, Winner take all.

Race Registration/Payment
=================
Please indicate your race status using the registration link below.
Payment options will be to pay Gary Lee directly via cash/check or we will send you a credit card/paypal invoice at your request. Relay teams should have one captain sign up and pay for the whole team.
Guaranteed REGISTRATION will end May 15, 2010, but may stay open for a few days after that if we can handle it. We also reserve the right to cap the field at any time if we run out of volunteers to handle the logistics, so payment secures your spot.
In addition, if you want to get a T-SHIRT, you have to register by May 1, 2010. Race day registration may or may not be available depending on how much race food we have available on the day of the race. There are some parking areas in the Buckeye picnic ground and in the Lake Anza swim area parking lot.

Spectator and Volunteer Information
=======================
Spectators/non-racers should note that there might be a $2 fee on race day (paid to the park) to enter the beach/swim area to view the start/swim leg unless Tilden Park will work out a group deal for us for being in there for only 30 minutes tops. There are some parking areas in the Buckeye picnic ground and in the Lake Anza swim area parking lot.
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to hang around T1/T2, pickup food, run logistics, keep time, etc. If you plan on watching or being there and are willing to lend a hand, PLEASE let me know. It'd also be great if there are any amateur photographers who might want to take pictures out the swim and, in and out of T1/T2, and at the finish, please let me know too!
If you are just coming for the BBQ/entertainment ($10), please also fill out the form so we can ensure adequate quantities of food and drink.

Sanctioning
=======
For real? This event is not sanctioned by anyone! We're just a group of friends out there for fun. We are merely here to facilitate our fun and to encourage you to join in. We obviously don't have police support, a medical staff, a real race director, etc. Please do not bring your super-nice equipment! T1/T2 is on your own in Buckeye so you should not bring anything ultra-expensive. If you are wary of getting your bike jacked, I'd advise you to bring some bike locks to lock your bike around trees or tables. We should pretty much be friends or friends of friends so the honor system is in effect. We did not have any problems last year.

==========
I hope you are all as excited about this event as we are! It is our goal to have a great time and have fun**, so please please don't take this way too seriously**. Feel free to invite your friends, family, etc! If you have any questions or would like to help organize please feel free to send me an email (
garylee@gmail.com).
*Actual distances will be determined by whatever happens to be easiest to set up in terms of geographical features and landmarks, etc.
**This is just a bunch of people who want to go out have fun and maybe do their first triathlon. In fact, in order to make this more accessible to everyone, remember that there are additional food penalties for people who race with wetsuits. Also remember there will also be a penalty for anyone who races without at least some piece of external skintight spandex or similar materials.
