****Come and witness what happens when public health embraces new media and video!*****
Public Health leaders need to capitalize on the potential of video and new media to reach, engage, and mobilize diverse populations. As a result, the Center for Health Leadership at the School of Public Health sponsored an innovative, 2-semester course entitled Video and Public Health Leadership: Using video and New Media for Advocacy, Participatory Evaluation, and Action Research. Students, faculty, and staff embarked on this new course, which introduced skills that are at the cutting-edge of public health leadership, advocacy, and research. During the Fall semester, students used video cameras to gather ideas about social change and leadership. During the Spring semester, students gained skills in video editing and communication. With the Spring semester drawing to a close, participants of the class will showcase the short videos they have created on topics ranging from Health Care Reform to UC Berkeley student leadership to Art in the Community, including dance and music—all with public health advocacy at their core.
Our class cordially invites you to come and celebrate our adventure in public health, new media, and video by attending our short video premiere event. We hope to inspire you to consider ways in which new media can be used in your work, whether it be research, community organizing, or just for fun!
