BLUETECH - Evan Bluetech is a classically trained pianist and master of the art of software production. Always keeping an ear open for new sounds, and stretching his musical palette with numerous aliases and collaborations, he proudly presents his new band Satori Social. Avoiding limitation by sub-genre or stylistic restrictions, he is always looking to explore fresh ideas with his instantly recognizable attention to detail and unique production aesthetic.
Not content to play it safe, and seeking to expand the “producer behind a laptop” paradigm of electronic music, he hand picked a group of accomplished musicians to help him realize a more engaging live experience and Satori Social was born. Combining elements of dub, downtempo, soul, funk, and modern electronic music, the Satori Social project builds on the sonic worlds of previous Bluetech material, while stretching into new dimensions of evocative modern music, and is evolving into an experience that is more than the sum of it’s parts, both in the live experience and new material born from the collaborative writing process.
The cast of characters includes Katrina Blackstone, a jazz trained vocalist from NYC with a passionate vocal presence, Russell Scott, an exceptionally talented multi-instrumentalist on various horns, flute, synth and keys, Jason ‘Cedar’ Miller, an inspired and expressive percussionist, and Evan Bluetech himself running the live mix and playing keys and synth.
OTT - Deep within the English countryside lie a number of brilliant music producers. One such unfashionable but extremely talented artist is Ott, best friend of Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen and previous editor of the Shpongle albums. Reclusive genius Ott is no stranger to the studio. He has for the last 20 years been producing arranging and recording some of the most famous artists including Sinead O'Connor, The Orb, and Brian Eno. Working in a wide range of the best studios in the land from SARM East and West, Real World, and Ridge Farm to Foel in Wales. He has been interviewed in the producers/engineers bible Sound on Sound and is currently managed by Strongroom Management UK. He continues to work with many famous artists and along his travels met up with master producer Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen, editing Shpongle. After hearing his studio skills Simon commissioned Ott to make the modern dub album 'Hallucinogen In Dub' as an antithesis to his own hurtling psy-trance music. The results are as you shall see, startling, a stunning example of modern dub and one that is sure to be massive with all dance music and ambient music fans across the globe. It's a dub circus with flecks of the original souping in and out, and the effect is truly psychedelic. Spiritual Antiseptic uses the original's cutup vocals with a more traditional dub arrangement - melodica, clattering drums, and reverb to hell and back. Twisting and turning, the way the main LSD melody surfaces is pure sonic poetry, and certainly gets those brain chemicals flowing. Finally Angelic Particles - with swirling vocals and sweet guitar (specially recorded by Simon Posford) creating a sort of timeless dub full of rich psychedelic harping back to Floyd, Gong and the Grateful Dead. This is an absolute triumph - it's original, it's brave, and the sounds are truly transporting making this a release that truly deserves the 'psychedelic' tag.
Ott's most recent album 'Skylon' really is over the top in quality, depth and shining brilliance. Spacey strings, chants, otherworldly noises and pertinent samples collide with his massive rub-a-dub beats and bass. Ott's music is a world to it's own, a pure undiluted atmospheric world of swirling stoned sound and colour. Indian to Arabic to African Ott's dub's are boundary-less and boundless in their scope and strength. Ott's music is a paradox of dub, not stereotypically slow heavy sounds but at once an upbeat dancey dub full of light, world chants and funky beats, while still maintaining a slow and relaxed ambient groove. Skylon is a selection of clean hard grooves and the best dub studio skills, echo, delay, phasing, instruments popping up out of the murk and then submerging again, particular skills of which Ott is a maestro.
