WHEREAS on June 3, 2008, Montana and South Dakota were the last states vote in the 2008 Democratic Presidential Primary, and on that day Barack Obama’s victory in both states, in addition to approximately 60 super delegates, put him well over the “magic number” needed to secure the Democratic nomination for President of the United States; and
WHEREAS before his victory speech at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Minnesota as the presumptive nominee, Barack and Michelle Obama performed a celebratory “fist bump” that would be reenacted across the United States and around the world; and
WHEREAS Barack Obama went on to win the Presidency by a land slide victory on November 4, 2008 and became the 44th President of the United States of America; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED that June 3rd hereby be known as International Fist Bump Day in recognition of the fantastic achievement by Barack Obama and the millions of people who helped and supported in the victory of the 2008 Presidential Campaign; and, be it further
RESOLVED that people across the world are encouraged to fist bump friends, family, neighbors and coworkers as a sign of good will, and a hope for a better future.
