"You can't go wrong with the Downer Party. Hardly down on anything, this band--with sugary female vocals, a dizzying punk momentum, and hooks so sharp they'll claw at you for days. "Being a Teenager is Free Palestine" has a confusing title for a song, but being an adolescent is hardly the age of clarity. The tune, which you can stream from the Downer Party's MySpace page, has little to do with the Middle East. THE DEFINITE ARTICLES

"The talent is obvious, but what I like is that the band don't depend on the kitsch factor; their music is catchy, complicated, adventurous, and most of all, really good. With a sound akin to Final Fantasy, Joanna Newsom, and the Shins, this music is the right step forward for indie rock. It's almost entirely unpretentious and genuine; and by that, I mean that these aren't college kids showing off how cool they are because they can play instruments (I'm looking at you, Vampire Weekend). This is a collective of talented musicians writing great songs and forgoing the guitar for a much better sound."

"Tonight I’ve been feeling like a fat kid in a candy store, drooling against the display case perusing so many stand-out tracks on the new release by Oakland, CA based Sentinel... perfect guitar riffs, swelling bridges and that gallivanting beat creating a hallucinatory dream-pop fueled vision that is hard to shake."
