Attend the Castro County Fair at San Francisco’s historic Armory Community Center, where dozens of community organizations have partnered with AIDS Emergency Fund to create a family-friendly, fun-filled day, featuring community awards, carnival-type games, family & kids’ activities, scrumptious county fair food and libations, as well as hooting ‘n’ hollering San Francisco-style entertainment. The weekend of May 22nd and 23rd also marks the first observance Harvey Milk’s birthday as a state holiday. The Castro County Fair is truly the type of event Harvey Milk imagined for the community.

AIDS Emergency Fund
In 1982 AIDS Emergency Fund (AEF) was one of the nation's earliest responders to AIDS by providing emergency financial assistance to people who had been fired and evicted by panicked employers and landlords. Since then, AEF has provided more than $27,000,000 in emergency financial assistance to people disabled by HIV/AIDS. Each year approximately 2,400 low-income San Franciscans get help from AEF - enabling them to maintain housing and utility services, make medical co-payments, and meet other critical expenses while they are too sick to work. And, AEF works closely with more than 40 other AIDS service agencies in San Francisco to assure that its emergency assistance is coupled with referrals to other organizations that provide meals, counseling, subsidized housing and other longer-term assistance. AEF's very low overhead is covered by corporate and foundation gifts, which means 100% of all funds from individuals and community events goes directly to clients in need.
