The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting The Princess Margaret, is a cycling journey from Toronto to Niagara Falls - a distance of over 200 km. The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting The Princess Margaret, is a cycling journey from Toronto to Niagara Falls - a distance of over 200 km. This will be the third year that I will be participating in this event and I truly hope that you will join me by supporting such a worthwhile cause. I have raised over $4000 in previous years and I hope to accomplish the same this year.
Cancer is a disease that has an impact on all of us. We all know someone that has fought cancer; through your support, it my hope that we will eventually conquer this illness. Personally, some of my closest friends as well my family have been diagnosed with cancer. My grandfather passed away with colon cancer before he had the chance to meet any of his grandchildren. My father has undergone cancer treatment three times. His latest treatment began shortly after I completed the ride on its inaugural year. Through his incredible strength and the treatment and support given at The Princess Margaret, he rode alongside his family last year and will do so again this year. I can't even begin to express the gratitude and how deeply I am indebted to everyone at Princess Margaret and all of our friends who have provided the support to make this ride a family tradition. I have seen firsthand how far your support goes to save lives.
This year, as in previous years, I will be embarking on this journey on my single speed bike. Despite being exhausted and sore throughout many parts of the previous rides, I was always inspired to keep going. On the first year of the ride we were presented with a very inspiring speech to get us on our way out of the starting gate. Although it has been a couple years, I find that those words still echo in the back of my head.
"Our pain is nothing compared to their pain.
Our sweat is nothing compared to their tears.
And our struggle is nothing compared to their fight."
Whenever my legs were sore, or I felt I couldn’t push any farther, I replayed those words in my head, over and over and I kept pedaling. My dad kept me going in spirit my first year; last year he kept me going at an accelerated pace in hopes to avoid embarrassment - he's wicked fast for an old guy!
I sincerely hope you can find your own motivation to help support myself, my family, and all those afflicted with this terrible disease.
Thank you all for your tremendous help and support - without you this tradition would not be possible.
