Drop Your Avant Garde is back again!!!
This month you're invited to come downtown to change the way you think about art, and the places where art can be found. Join the DID and Comcast for art, live music, food and drink specials, and more as we create four NEW unique art exhibits in unconventional urban spaces.
Drop Your Avant Garde will again feature four pop-up art galleries on the 800 block of Calhoun Street. These venues include 816 Pint & Slice, Dash-In, Loaf ‘n Ladle, Ryan Hadley Studio and The Garden Beauty & Barber Studio. These locations will have new art, live music and food and drink specials.
The Venues:
Dash In (814 S. Calhoun)
We Keep Remembering to Forget: Photography from the lost and overlooked corners of Fort Wayne. The idea behind this show is to bring the hidden/overlooked architecture and culture of Fort Wayne to the light and showcase them. Artists: Jeremiah Miser, Justin Jackson, Swikar Patel, Bambi Guthrie, Josef Zimmerman. (21 + only)
816 Pint & Slice (816 S. Calhoun)
This venue presents sculpted art featuring work by local artists including Greg Mendez, Kevin Leigh-Mannuelle, Justin Jackson, Patrick Gainer and Rebecca Till. Great beer specials, live music by The Harps Guy: a one man show and a family-friendly environment make this a great stop on your art tour!
Loaf N Ladle (817 S. Calhoun)
A special photography exhibit with pieces featuring downtown Fort Wayne by local artists. Photos are those entered into the Downtown Improvement District’s “Bright Night” photo contest. Nonalcoholic drinks and food will also be available. (Family friendly.)
Ryan Hadley Studio (819 S. Calhoun)
This exhibit presents a display of miniature artwork between 2 and 4 inches in size. Local and out-of-state artists showcase tiny artwork of all sorts. Drinks and live music will accompany you as you look closely at these little designs.
The Garden Beauty & Barber Studio (819 S. Calhoun Street)
Paintings and drawings by Chris York focus on hidden emotions and are designed to publically express the feelings that people conceal from one another. Unique patterns and tightly packed imagery are used to create a heightening of the senses that will pull the viewer in for a closer look.
