So many First Parishioners will be out of town this weekend – enjoying the Cape, the Mountains, or All Star II. How sad! We will light a candle for all those poor folk who will be bereft of this Sunday’s magical service by very special guest speaker Susi Chivvis on Zen, and the art of the croquet tournament.
Who is Susi Chivvis? If you are a Ferry Beacher past or present you will not need to ask. A long-time member of First Parish in Concord, Susi is the doyenne, the major domo, the den mother, drill sergeant and all around Grand Pumba of the 3 day intergen/FP Concord, FP Lex croquet extravaganza which is, in the many ways, the heart of the Ferry Beach dual-parish Memorial Day Weekend. Our very own Janet McKenney won the gold for FPLex this year (and you thought she was just good at Search!)
We’re very fortunate to have Susi plan to spend the Fourth of July with us this year, and if you are in town I hope you will make a special effort to come and to give her one of our inimitable First Parish welcomes. In lieu of coffee hour, and in honor of Susi’s decade’s long commitment to our having fun through fellowship and sport, we will have a croquet tournament and picnic at 3 Harrington Road immediately following the service.
For more information, and to sign up for croquet and picnic items, please contact Nan Jefferys.
The Lay-Led Services Team wishes all and sundry a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend, and we look forward to celebrating the holiday with you this Sunday.
With all fond Independence Day wishes,
Nan and Company
