Or Friday night in Palo Alto:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=135320986500770&ref=ts
Surya Yalamanchili, Democratic nominee in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District, is coming to the Bay area at the end of the month for meet & greet fundraising receptions.
Surya has one of the most interesting backgrounds you're likely to see in a congressional candidate:
He started an Internet company at 15, worked full-time at a startup while at Rutgers, was the youngest brand manager ever at Procter & Gamble (age 24), and even spent a bit of time with us here in the Valley at LinkedIn and SocialMedia.com. Oh, and how could I forget that he was also on the Donald Trump show, The Apprentice.
Surya was driven to quit his job to run for Congress because of a frustration with what's going on in DC.
Despite being down 40 points just six weeks before the primary (thanks to his opponent having a year headstart), having a 4:1 money disadvantage, and working without any paid staff, he won his primary in May! He's running a true lean start-up style campaign that the Bay Area should uniquely appreciate.
Surya has a great chance to win his election* since his opponent (the infamous Jean Schmidt) hasn't gotten more than 50.2% of the vote in the past two elections. Surya is a dynamic candidate who I'm confident you'll come to really believe in like I do.
*(the NYT considers this as one of the ~100 House races it considers "in play")
The event has a suggested contribution level of $250 or a $50 Young Professional rate.
