On Sat. Aug. 14, Other Cinema DVD (OCD) joins forces with Alternative Digital Domain (ADD) to initiate a 4-part late-summer micro-cinema mini-series, "KwikGigs". This quartet of events showcases live A/V performances (accompanied by a USB 'Flash-Drive' release), contemporary moving-image artwork, and (often double-projected) 16mm film. (This first Saturday's show is in fact a fund-raiser for the upcoming Fall Other Cinema exhibition season, and so as an exception to the rule, the otherwise rock-bottom KwikGigs $3 door charge will be raised.) And on this "Mid-Summer Night's Delirium" program appear many of the cutting-edge artists in the OCD catalog, leading up to the 2 featured live performances by Omori ("SunMeltSky") and Craig Baldwin ("Plato's Hole"). Among these marvelous makers are Martha Colburn, David Sherman, Lewis Klahr, Damon Packard, and Davy Force/TV Sheriff. PLUS a chapter from Baldwin's own collage-serial "Mock Up On Mu", AND the premiere revival of the ultra-rare "Psycho-Montage" by Antony Balch himself! The benefit begins with an extended set of 16mm anomalies, including Josie and the Pussycats, Hawaiian dance-music, Liberace, blimp disasters, cave art, and a privileged peek at the deliriously lurid Technicolor "A Night in Paradise", leading up to Baldwin's real-time twin-16 roto-strobo-scopic mash-up. ALSO on the bill are 3-D movies, the Dream Machine, liquid light-show, Scopitones, and the many faces of the Trololo-man. AND (cheap!) home-made beer, blow-torched crème brulees, and a free album for each drink purchase during our early artists' reception!
