MEMBERS' PREVIEW WITH SOAP BOX HAPPY HOUR
September 22, 4-6 PM
The Soap Box Series brings a new twist to happy hour during ArtPrize. The term originates from the days when speakers would elevate themselves by standing on a wooden crate originally used for shipment of soap or other dry goods from a manufacturer to a retail store. We have no soap to ship, but we have artists ready to speak about their work and garner public votes. The audience is also encouraged to take the box and express their opinions. Enjoy a cash bar and light eats during this festive, fast paced and lively series.
UICA OPENING CELEBRATION
September 22, 6–9 PM
Come to UICA to complete your ArtPrize voter registration and take part in an opening celebration of ArtPrize exhibitions featuring the work of more than 30 exceptional artists. Meet the artists, explore their work, and enjoy hors d’oeuvres along with cocktails and music.
PECHA KUCHA
September 23, 5–10 PM
Location: Amway Grand Plaza Hotel
Pecha Kucha is a simple presentation format where artists show 20 images, each for 20 seconds, and talk about their work. A handful of artists from each of the ArtPrize neighborhoods will present for this informal and fun gathering, where creative people get together and share their ideas, artwork, and thoughts.
ARTCATION
September 24, 9 AM–3 PM
Location: UICA, Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids Public Museum and Calder Plaza. ARTcation is a community wide collaboration between art and humanities organizations that use downtown Grand Rapids as a learning laboratory.
