You are invited to join the Los Angeles County Young Democrats as we watch progressive champion Barbara Boxer take on Republican challenger Carly Fiorina in the first debate of the 2010 campaign season.
The debate-watching party will also serve as a LACYD membership meeting. We will be voting on our organization's endorsements for the initiatives on the fall ballot. The LACYD Executive Board met earlier this week to debate the Propositions and make recommendations for endorsements. The board is recommending the following positions:
Proposition 19 (Legalization and Taxation of Marijuana)- Yes
Proposition 20 (Congressional Redistricting by Committee)- No
Proposition 21 (Funding for State Parks)- Yes
Proposition 22 (Ban on State Borrowing from Local Governments)- No
Proposition 23 (Texas Oil Company Anti-Competition Initiative)- No
Proposition 24 (Repeal Corporate Tax Breaks)- Yes
Proposition 25 (Majority Vote to Pass a State Budget)- Yes
Proposition 26 (2/3 Super-majority to Pass New Fees)- No
Proposition 27 (Elimination of Proposition 11 Citizen Redistricting Commission)- Yes
Members, prospective members and "not quite young Dems still" (we call them "donors") are welcome, though only active members in good standing can vote on the initiative endorsements. Members must have been current on their dues at least three (3) days prior to the meeting to be eligible to vote.
