WHO: Get Fed and Eco Jews of the Bay proudly invite you to a the 2nd Annual Sustainable Sukkah Project. Please join us this Saturday, September 25th from 6:00-9:30 p.m. at Hayes Valley Farm (450 Laguna Street at Fell, San Francisco) to celebrate one of the most festive days of the year with a Sukkot Seder Under the Setting Sun at SF's Hayes Valley Farm.
WHAT: This year, celebrate the harvest and the New Year by joining us for this Sukkot Seder, the creation of Illana Gauss and the Eco Jews Of The Bay. Our Sukkah site is the amazing Hayes Valley Farm, standing where the former San Francisco freeway on-ramp used to be, and represents the epitome of the harvest, sustainability and tzedakah. This community farm serves as a community and agricultural hub, empowering San Francisco residents to connect with one another, grow their own food, and learn about sustainable ecological systems.
Keeping in theme with the celebration of food, our evening program will include:
• Education about urban farming and tour of Hayes Valley Farm.
• Rabbi Peretz Wolf-Prusan of Lehrhaus Judaica leads shaking the lulav and etrog
• Help finish decorating our sukkah* – décor contributions are welcome!
• A unique seder to explore Sukkot’s timeless environmental messages, featuring our co-sponsors along with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee**
• Community potluck dinner—bring your seasonally inspired vegetarian dishes! Participants are asked to contribute a potluck vegetarian dish for six.
• Mini cooking class with Executive Chef Shoshana Baars-Stanton. (We’ll make a dish for all to enjoy with dinner.)
• Closing havdallah ceremony with music and singing under the stars.
This program is co-sponsored by Pursue: Action for a Just World, a project of AJWS and AVODAH and Hazon.
We are also pleased to announce that this year’s Sustainable Sukkah Project is a fiscally sponsored project of the Jewish Federation of the East Bay. All donations (not including ticket fees) to EcoJews at this event will be tax-deductible. See below for more details.
*We still need a few handy, reliable volunteers to assemble the sukkah 9/22, and to take it down on 9/26. Email
