The story of the Corleone Family continues. Through incredible struggle, Michael Corleone succeeds his father as the Godfather. His difficulties and triumphs -- in both his real family and his mafia family -- are contrasted brilliantly with flashbacks of young Vito Corleone's struggles to establish his own "families". One of the most acclaimed motion pictures ever made and the winner of six Academy Awards.

Starting as a bestselling crime thriller, the GODFATHER saga became, in the hands of Francis Ford Coppola, a rich tapestry of 20th century American life. The first film dazzled audiences with the scope of its story and the deftly woven authenticity Coppola (and his brilliant cast) conveyed.

It seemed like an insurmountable achievement but with the sequel, Coppola both broadened and deepened the story of the Corleone clan. In the first chapter Marlon Brando delineated Vito Corleone with an artists' precision, in part two young Robert De Niro provided coloring and shading worthy of the master. Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and others act with the kind of finesse that washes away the boundaries between fiction and truth. It's the great American family saga; our primal myth; our truth, washed in blood.
