What types of technologies exist today and how will they evolve? What does it mean on a practical as well as theoretical level? How will they improve our lives? What are the potential downsides, and how will we address them? Presentation Professors Robert Suro, Jonathan Taplin, and Cyrus Shahabi of the USC-Annenberg Innovation Lab will present iCampus.USC, a first-of-its-kind immersive geospatial social networking portal for the USC community. This includes a 3D high-quality rendering of USC campus and its neighborhood. Panel Discussion A panel of distinguished experts will discuss how these technologies are impacting politics, commerce, marketing, government, education, media, and business. Matt Galligan, 25, is the CEO and Co-Founder of SimpleGeo, based out of Boulder, CO, that provides a ready-to-use location infrastructure for app developers. He previously founded Socialthing, a company that was chosen to be part of the inaugural year of TechStars. Socialthing.com went into private beta in March, 2008 at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. The company was acquired five months later by AOL. Socialthing was later rebranded as AOL Lifestream. His background is in graphic design and user experience, working for Network Solutions, based out of St. Louis, MO. He got his start in the internet and design while working for a disaster restoration company out of Illinois before he turned 16. Akash Agarwal is SVP Business and Corporate Development, Location Labs. Before joining Location Labs, Akash led Business Development and Sales at PlusMo, the leading mobile widgets company that was recently acquired by AT&T. Prior to PlusMo, Akash founded and served as CEO of Green Note, a leading social networking based lending service for college students. The company was backed by Menlo Ventures and Glenbrook Partners prior to its acquisition by Cology, Inc. In addition to his entrepreneurial experiences Akash has also held executive management roles at both Oracle and Mercury Interactive (acquired by HP for $4.6B). Akash has an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Computer Science (with honors) from the University of Kent at Canterbury, England. Kyle Brinkman is Co-Founder and CEO of CitySourced, a real time mobile civic engagement platform. CitySourced provides a free, simple, and intuitive platform empowering residents to identify civic issues (public safety, quality of life, & environmental issues, etc.) and report them to city hall for quick resolution.
