Web search is evolving dramatically. In the beginning, there was basic keyword search, where Google still dominates. But over the course of 2010, there have been numerous innovations on the user experience side, including conversational user interfaces, real-time search, search with integrated discovery, and social search. At the same time, the understanding of how search impacts the sales process is changing as analysis of behavioral data across a broad section of the social graph provides a comprehensive view of individuals’ behavior. Today, the answer to the question "What is a search engine?" is not as clear as it once was as new, large players like Facebook and Twitter - and numerous smaller search innovators - enter the landscape.
So, where are we now, in terms of the web search experience, and what will the next generation of search experience look like? What are the business opportunities driving innovation? What technology will make new developments possible? What are the revenue models associated new categories of search-based user experience?
