Agenda Jeremy Weiskotten will be presenting "Haml, Sass, and Compass for Sane Web Development" HTML and CSS are ubiquitous on the web, but they were mostly created in a vacuum. Haml, Sass, and Compass provide helpful abstractions and utilities to remove some of the repetition and noise in your code for more rapid development and easier maintenance. We'll discuss the basics and general syntax, then dive into some code to see how it _really_ works. Brian Kaney will be presenting "Clarity with REST and Inherited Resources" Many Rails apps these days strive to be RESTful. But as complexity builds, exceptions are made, which can lead to a slippery slope toward fat controllers and complicated routing. We will try to add some clarity and look at REST fundamentals (it's more than GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE), resource-oriented design, inherited resources and the accepts-nested-attributes-for pattern with some realistic examples. Then, we'll open the floor for short, Barcamp-style lightning talks. If you have a topic in mind, let me know and I'll add the topic to this list. Of course impromptu talks are always welcome. Anticipated lightning talks include: "Simple client-side form validation with Rails 3, HTML 5 and Validator" "Members helping members survey response summary" Finally we'll wrap things up with announcements and job opportunities. Afterwards, we will be heading to Flat Top Johnny's for drinks and possibly some pool. Venue Sermo is kindly providing space and food and drink for this month's meeting. They are located at 215 First Street, Cambridge, MA, 02142, on the 4th floor of the Athenaeum Center. When you come into the building, the elevator/stairway is down the hallway to the right of the welcome desk. Go up to the 4th floor, and the Sermo entrance is to the left. If you are taking the T, the nearest stops are Kendall on the Red Line, and Lechmere on the Green Line. If you are driving, there is on-street parking in the surround areas after 6PM. Additionally, the Cambridgeside Galleria is nearby, and has a parking garage ($2-$3). Special Thanks Many thanks go out to: Sermo for providing the venue, food, and drinks Engine Yard for donating a slice for hosting bostonrb.org
