Join us in celebrating the Media Lab's 25th anniversary. We start early on October 15--at 8:30am--with a symposium that includes alumni remembrances, an introduction to our newest faculty members, reflections by Lab founder Nicholas Negroponte, a closing session moderated by John Hockenberry, and some surprise guests. And of course there will be demos, demos, and more demos.
At 7:00pm it's party time! Spouses and partners are invited, but leave the kids with a sitter. Our fellow alumni Alex and Eran from Harmonix (originators of Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and much more) will be giving us first crack at a pair of yet-to-be-released games. There will be cool art, interactives, and unclassifiables to check out from past and present Media Labbers, remembrance activities, good food to eat, and more surprises.
Saturday, October 16, is Alumni Day, and family-oriented, so feel free to bring the kids to explore the expanded Media Lab complex in a less hectic environment. Faculty, current students, and their families are invited as well. The day kicks off the day with brunch at 10:00am. At noon, several of the labs will be opened for you and your families, and we will continue with activities for you to contribute your memories to our Media Lab archive, now under construction.
This Facebook event page is open to the public so that you can share it easily with your fellow alumni and get the word out (please do!), but the event is NOT. The handy Facebook RSVP feature will alert your friends that you are coming. HOWEVER, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, (sorry for the shouting), official registration at the Media Lab's web site will be necessary to attend any or all of the event. Only alumni and invited guests will be allowed to register and attend. (On Friday, there will be lots of sponsors at the Lab too, but what Media Lab party would be complete without them?)
We encourage all of you to use this as a discussion forum about the event, and welcome suggestions about ways we can make this event better. There are no formal events planned for Sat night, so this page should be a great place to plan informal dinners and other gatherings for the evening.
We're still prepping the registration system. When it is ready to go, which is any day now, we'll send out official e-mail invites and also post the registration URL back here on Facebook in case we don't have your email in our database.
Looking forward to seeing you!
