Massive amounts of data are being generated daily and shared on the web by organizations and individuals to publicize business practices, express social opinions and reveal highly personal information, including health and income data. Such contributed data has been used for emergency coordination, financial planning, and people finding. Our upcoming NPUC workshop will explore technologies and applications that can help us better harness such data (we call it the "the buzz of the crowd") to benefit our society as a whole, ranging from education, health care, business and science. The purpose of this collaborative workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from diverse fields who are interested in developing and applying state-of-art technologies to help harness the buzz of the crowd. We are very interested in exploring how the buzz could be collected, analyzed and used to enable a new generation of applications and their potential personal, social and scientific implications and impact.
Our purpose is to bring together researchers and practitioners from these fields who are interested in developing and applying state-of-art technologies to help harness the buzz of the crowd.
