Widely regarded as the innovative force behind the creation of the 'Asian underground', Talvin Singh is a gifted composer, producer and tabla player. Classically trained, he became involved in experimental music collaborations in the late 1980s, working to popularize the burgeoning Asian sub-culture movement, mixing Indian classical music with western pop, dance and jazz. Singh’s solo album credits include critical and commercial successes such as the groundbreaking OK (1998) which won The Mercury Prize. A prolific producer and remixer, Singh has collaborated with musical pioneers in various genres including Bjork, Madonna, DJ Spooky, The Master Musicians of Jajouka, Jay Z and Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. His unique presentations feature Tablatronix, a hybrid electronic/analog instrument which offers remarkable sonic-processing possibilities.
