[re]Think: Hawaii geeks are getting together in Honolulu for the 3:30pm screening on Oct 18th of Jet Li's new film "Ocean Heaven". Tickets are $12 at the box office BUT it's only $8 if a group of 10 show up. I think we can do that. :)
It's the film's debut in the U.S. at HIFF!
Martial arts superstar Jet Li gives a stellar non-action performance as a terminally ill father determined to help his autistic son function independently. Li plays Wang, a maintenance man at an Ocean Park-style theme park, who lives with his autistic 20-year-old son, Dafu. Dafu is an excellent swimmer and regularly joins Wang at work, where he is allowed to swim along side the sea creatures. Wang is resolved to teach Dafu basic living skills, so that he can function on his own. Simple lessons in dressing, transportation and money are met with mixed results. When Wang's condition worsens, he must quickly find someone to care for his son or send him to a mental asylum.
Beautiful water scenes and solid performances from the cast have helped OCEAN HEAVEN a hit in China, while shedding light on autism. Li’s stoic performance as a single father caring for his son is as remarkable as any role he has held in his action films, and makes this film a must see at this year’s festival.
