Dave Nattriss Mike - when you check in on the day at the venue, you'll see recent check-ins and if they allow it you can send them friend requests using your mobile app (and probably through http://m.foursquare.com as well). You don't actually need to be friends to get the badge though? And it's probably not wise to share your all your check-ins with complete strangers anyway.
