Hello Everyone,
Sorry for the hiatus in contacting all of you, we have been in the process of moving house. We're done now, and so we should be contacting you more often with even more information on events and activities in Japan.
For this month, we will have our Cocktail Hour at Las Chicas, Tokyo Salon in Omote Sando. We have used this location before for business talks, and decided it would be great to revisit this location once again.
This month we will have a 20 minute seminar from Dr. Fiona Robertson of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, speaking on "What Makes Plants Tick", explaining how the internal clock of plants is helping in the development of new crops to enable sustainable food production.
Dr. Robertson is a member of the Plant Genomic Network Research Team which is investigating plant responses to environmental stresses (such as drought and cold) on a genome-wide scale. Looking at all of the genes that are turned on or off when plants are exposed to stress helps science work out why some plants are better able to adapt to stress whereas others are not.
This talk, grounded in science, is sure to provide ideas for all of us what new markets and technologies are on the horizon and should be very entertaining as well.
I hope to see you there!
Cheers,
Henry
