The 30th Olympiad comes to London in 2012. Thirty years of modern Olympic history will be celebrated in Olympic Park and all across London from July 27th through August 12th. With the 2012 Games London achieves the rare honor of having hosted the games three times. Previously London hosted the fourth and fourteenth Olympic games in 1908 and 1948 respectively. The city of London welcomes the games with a new Olympic Park featuring some of the most modern venues ever to hold olympic competition.
Twenty-six sports will be contested in the London Games. Basketball and softball will not be played in London Games, having been removed by the IOC with no replacements chosen as of the end of the Beijing Games. Additional events may be added before the Summer Games open once again in 2012. Some sports that have been considered as replacements include karate, golf, rugby, and cricket.
The center of the London Games will be Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. Major renovations to the area included moving electric utilities underground to make way for the 6 major venues that will comprise the Park. The new London Olympic Stadium is the hub Olympic Park. Olympic Stadium will seat approximately 80,000 spectators. It will be unique in that, once the London Olympics are completed, the stadium is designed to be reduced to a 25,000 capacity venue to serve the city of London.

Tickets for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games go on sale in 2011. 7.7 million tickets will be available for the Olympic Games, with another 1.5m for the Paralympic Games.
Tickets for both events will go on sale from 2011 and, subject to availability, remain on sale until the start of every event.

Located in the south east corner of the Olympic Park, the Aquatics Centre will be the ‘gateway’ to the Park during the Games. It will include a 50m competition pool, a 25m competition Diving pool and a 50m warm-up training pool. Water Polo will be held next to it in a temporary 5,000-seat venue with competition and warm-up pools.
