On 25 September 2011, from 8AM to 1PM, the Roland Park Civic League will host its fourth ciclovía. Vehicular traffic will be diverted from Roland Avenue and West University Pkwy, allowing residents to socialize, exercise and relax.
The event is being planned in conjunction with the City of Baltimore’s new BMore Streets for People Program. Representatives from other City neighborhood associations will be on hand to observe the event and to ponder organizing their own neighborhood ciclovías in 2012.
This time the course will be lengthened. Participants will be able to walk, run, bike or otherwise transit southbound Roland Avenue from Northern Parkway, across Cold Spring Lane and down West University Parkway to Keswick Road. Food and entertainment will be featured at the Roland Water Tower where southbound Roland Avenue and West University Parkway meet.
Cross traffic will be temporarily blocked on side streets. Cold Spring Lane, however, will remain open to traffic. Participants will be able to cross Cold Spring Lane with the traffic light.
Local bike shops will be on hand to tune up bikes and instruct children on bicycling safety. Back by popular demand, a “bike rodeo” will be organized for the youngest bicyclists, courtesy of Bike Maryland.
A thousand or more residents have participated in each of the three prior ciclovías. A heavy turnout is again expected.
