Looking for new direction, a life change, want to get a bit more tech and IT savvy? Then the October BAB Career Seminar Series (CSS) Being A Technology Broad is just for you!
Listen to the experiences of three foreign women, all of whom found their jobs in the Technology/IT industry while living in Japan. With plenty of time for questions and discussions, these informal presentations from three diverse Techies are sure to give you the information and inspiration you need to kick start your own career.
We all use and touch technology on a daily basis. This seminar will explore many transferable skills you can apply to your career and life, including blogging, e-commerce and social media plus it's a great chance to make new friends and connect with other fabulous broads. If you're in the IT industry already, then why not come along and mingle with some like minded women? Even if it's not your field of interest you'll be sure to take away something very valuable from this seminar.

Speaker 1: Bunka Cho
Bunka is a Senior Consultant at Hays Information Technology. She is fully trilingual (Japanese/English/Chinese) and has extensive recruiting in Information Technology in the Finance field (Investment Banks, Asset Management Firms, Retail Banks, Insurance, and Financial Software Vendors)
Speaker 2: Takara Swoopes Bullock
Takara describes herself as Wife, Mother, Former Head-Hunter Turned Start-up Founder in Tokyo. She previously worked for four years as a recruiting Partner of Optia Partners in where she helped international companies and start-ups in web services and digital media find talent. She authors two blogs, "Takara in Tokyo" and "Web.Women.Tokyo" and is the founder of SayonaraStuff (
http://sayonarastuff.com)- a personal project she launched for the expat Tokyo community. Takara will be launching a new web start-up, Hitch'd Design, a web application that lets your design and print gorgeous stationery on your own. (
http://hitchddesign.com) soon. Takara is from Decatur, Alabama and has been a resident of Japan for five years. She is a recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship in Japan, where she attended Tohoku University in Sendai Japan and researched "The Impact of Higher Education, on Career and Family Choices of Japanese Women." Her interest in IT and Technology is focused on social entrepreneurship and women focused consumer services and initiatives. And if that's not enough she's expecting a precious baby girl!
Speaker 3: Terri MacMillan
Terri is a dedicated, dynamic entrepreneur, orginally from New York, now making her home in Japan. Her extensive career here has included everything from managing a band, to ESL teaching, being a published author and now a New Media Producer, with expertise in Wordpress, blogging, website development and much, much more. She was also a podcasting pioneer in Japan (you can find her on itunes!). She has broad experience in creating, writing and producing multimedia products (corporate podcast series, visualcasts, promotional video) and has been very successful in marketing to niche audiences across cultures, including marketing Japanese alt.pop artist Pizzicato Five to a Western audience. Her creative talents and energy have no bounds plus she's no stranger to social media and it's potential and use in daily business. Her passion is for producing new media content that ignites, connects, and supports communities on and offline.
This is an informal event so please do come as you are! No dress code is necessary. Doors open at 7:15pm (please do not come before 7:15pm) and we will start at 7:30pm. There will be 10 minutes of speaking from each of our Technology Broads, followed by 60 minutes of questions and chatting. Drinks will be served during the seminar.
We hope this will be a great opportunity for participants to get inspired and informed, and enjoy meeting some new friends with similar interests and passions. Please note that, to allow speakers and guests to speak more freely, this is a girls' only event.
