The filmmaker, Dan Cohen will premiere his deeply inspiring and moving film for the LOS ANGELES JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL’S Opening Night Gala event on Thursday, May 5th at the Writer’s Guild Theater located at 135 S. Dohney Drive in Beverly Hills. Red Carpet arrivals begin at 7:00 pm followed by an 8:00 pm screening, filmmaker Q&A and dessert VIP reception. Tickets for this event are available at

The director for “AN ARTICLE OF HOPE,” Dan Cohen will be available at the Q&A along with top space expert Peter Diamandis, Founder and Chairman of XPrize and the International Space University. Moderated by journalist, David Suissa of OLAM and the Jewish Journal, other invited guests include Buzz Aldrin and Leonard Nimoy.
Highlights for this year’s festival include:
Closing night film “WHO DO YOU LOVE,” the story of Chess Records. Appearing in person at the Q&A session will be producer Jonathan Mitchell, invited guest, three time Grammy-winning blues great Keb’ Mo’ and actors Jon Abrahams and up and coming actor, David Oyelowo (who plays Muddy Waters in the film). “Who Do You Love” screens Thursday, May 12, 7:30 pm at Laemmle’s Town Center, Encino. This special screening ends the festival on a “high note.” Celebrities attending this program include: Songwriter, Diane Warren.

Los Angeles Premiere of “The Socalled Movie”
Monday, May 9, 7:30 pm Laemmle’s Music Hall, Beverly Hills with a Q&A with the film’s subject, Josh Dolgin, accompanied by a live performance by “Socalled” & Doris Glaspie. It’s a magical mystery tour of Montreal-based musician Josh “Socalled” Dolgin. Known for his unique appr¬¬¬oach, his use of funk, klezmer, hip-hop, lounge, and classical music has earned Socalled performances all over the world!
Oscar-winning film: “Strangers No More,” the 2010 Academy Award winner for Best Short Documentary in this dramatic portrayal of Israel as a caring society. The power of interfaith community action can improve the world and combat genocide and human rights violations. Followed by another Los Angeles Premiere; “Delicious Peace Grows in a Ugandan Coffee Bean.” An African Jew had the vision to see that a Muslim, a Christian, and a Jew can achieve great success together when they have a common humanitarian goal at heart. Shows on Wednesday, May 11, 7:30 pm Laemmle’s Town Center, Encino with filmmaker discussion including Curt Fissel & Ellen Friedland of Delicious Peace to follow. Screening in partnership with Jewish World Watch and the New Israel Fund.
A mother’s day special program including: “Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story” Sunday, May 8, 4:30 pm Laemmle’s Town Center, Encino. A discussion with DODGER VP of communication Josh Rawitch and (a Jewish) Major League Baseball player Gabe Kapler to follow. Sponsored by the Dodgers Dream Team.
