The Road Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities for Johns Hopkins University
Since the end of World War II, the modern research university has helped direct and shape the progress and preeminence of the United States. Throughout the years, Johns Hopkins has been at the helm of these efforts. However, we, like other research-intensive universities, now face several new challenges: increasing domestic and global competition; changing expectations of what universities can and should contribute to their communities; and new and emerging technologies that impact our research and teaching mission.
In light of these changes, we have selected four areas of focus for in-depth discussions during the volunteer summit. These discussions are designed to elicit insight and advice, which will assist the University’s leadership in shaping its priorities.
