For the first time ever, over forty alumni of the Yale Russian Chorus will travel from the East Coast to the West Coast to perform a special East Meets West concert of folk songs, love songs, and liturgical music from Russia and Eastern Europe. They will be joined on stage by Slavyanka Men's Russian Chorus, which was founded by Yale alumni and has been delighting Bay Area audiences for over 30 years with our own renditions of Russia's choral favorites.
The Yale Russian Chorus, founded in 1953 by Yale music student Denis Mickiewicz, has performed around the world, winning international choral competitions and helping to break down cultural barriers during and after the Cold War. Many of its soloists have gone on to operatic and other professional musical careers. Alumni from every era of the Yale Russian Chorus, from the 1950's to the "zeroes," will come together for this unique event.
The concert will take place on Saturday, November 13 at 7:30 pm at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1187 Franklin Street at Geary, in San Francisco. There will be a reception (doubtless with more singing!) after the concert.
