It's been a long time coming and something that I've wanted to help launch in South Florida for months. After doing my State of HTML5 presentation last month at Refresh FLL and at the behest of a lot of my friends, I'm happy to announce that the first monthly meeting of the South Florida JavaScript Group will be held Nov. 17th, from 7-9pm. For this meeting, we'll have a great presentation on closures by Josue Rodriguez.
Presentation #1
Title: Closures and Me: A Christmas Special
Description: Get to know javascript closures and how it can benefit your web apps. You will learn how to build a simple API for your application and how to maintain javascript code with closures for future feature implementation and porting.
Bio: Josue Rodriguez is a web developer based in Miami, FL. He's been developing web apps and past mobile apps for over 8+ years. With a background in IT, project management and customer service, he has developed applications for small to medium-size businesses and startups. He is currently chief architect for two local startups: CloudShoppr and Ecient Group, and is often working on freelancer projects.
Presentation #2
Title: jQuery Templating
Server-side Templating engines have been commonplace for years and now they're making their way to the client-side.
Why keep building dynamic content using JavaScript string concatenation when you can take advantage of the maintainable models provided by client-side templating engines?
In this presentation, Rey shows you a new way to produce easily maintainable dynamic pages via pre-built JavaScript templates and the Official jQuery Templating plugin.
Bio: As the Client-Web Community Program Manager for Microsoft, Rey focuses on building stronger awareness to client-side development and helping Microsoft meet the needs of this community. In addition, Rey is the Head of Evangelism for the jQuery JavaScript project and a writer for Ajaxian.com, the web's premier JavaScript blog.
