Licensing songs is a great way to earn some extra cash and gain greater exposure for your music. Yet, the licensing process and connecting with the right music supervisor or decision maker seems shrouded in mystery, especially if you're an indie artist.
Join Austin Music Foundation for a discussion with MasterSource song library founder Marc Ferrari. MasterSource, part of Universal Music Publishing, the largest music publisher in the world, is the leader in vocal and instrumental songs for film, TV, advertising, or any other multimedia application.
MasterSource's credits include songs placed in films The Blind Side, Secretariat, Spider Man 2, The Messenger, Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Sex and the City, Superbad, Wedding Crashers, Brokeback Mountain, X Men 2 and network TV shows Desperate Housewives, The Mentalist, Friday Night Lights, Weeds, The Office, Saturday Night Live, Gossip Girl, Law & Order, Entourage, Lost, ER, C.S.I, South Park and The Simpsons, among many others.
Marc will explain how the licensing process works, what type of songs work best in placements, how song libraries are used, how indie artists can be considered for song placements, and other inside information to shed light on this flourishing part of the music industry.
Following the discussion, stick around for a rapid-fire listening session where Marc will listen to snippets of songs from Austin artists and songwriters to evaluate whether or not the artist's style shows licensing potential for his song library.
