Topic: "How to Hire a Rock Star", by Gary Bremermann, Partner,
Robert Leonard Consulting and Andrew Silberman, President & Chief Enthusiast, AMT Group
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the fundamental keys to your business success and survival as well as long-term career growth is learning how to identify, qualify, and hire the very best people you can.
There are plenty of resources available on getting a job, however, how do you learn about hiring? This is especially challenging for new or inexperienced managers, aspiring managers and entrepreneurs.
Using the analogy of hiring “Rock Stars” for your band, Gary Bremermann will lead a fun and interactive session on how to hire great people based on both his 20 years as an entrepreneur and a decade as a Tokyo-based headhunter.
As a business owner, he has hired and fired a Fuji Rock festival’s worth of people with both successes and failures, and he has been in the middle of the mosh pit in guiding both employers and candidates to make chart-topping music together.
You’ll discover:
• How to identify a “Rock Star” (probably different than what you think)
• Understanding who you really need for your “band”
• How to tell the difference between the posers and the real talents
• How to get rock stars to join your band
• What skills to focus on for your own and the band's development
• Avoiding trouble on the road
Please come prepared to participate with your stories of hiring successes and hiring failures. You’ll be expected to participate by explaining which rock star is most like you and why. We’ll have some fun with the analogies, but in the end you’ll come away with some usable ideas on how you can make your next (or even first) hire a successful one and continue on down the road to realizing your own stardom.
Our speakers: Gary Bremermann & Andrew Silberman
Gary’s Japan-focused career spans 25 years and he’s planning for another 25 more. You may know him as the “Beers for Books guy” but he actually has a real job as an executive recruiter at Robert Leonard Consulting where he works to recruit talented and motivated advertising and marketing professionals. Gary’s mission is to help people find work they love and to help companies build teams of great people.
Prior to stumbling into the recruiting industry, Gary founded and successfully sold a U.S. based trading company with offices in Southern California, Tokyo, and London, something he vows to never do again. He has also worked as a door-to-door salesman, a plumber, a firefighter, a busboy, a forklift driver, sold yacht parts, maps, and organic coffee, and had a brief stint in publishing.

Andrew arrived in the center of Tokyo back in September of 1991 and found himself co-founding a company much sooner than he expected. Among the jobs he held before starting AMT Group were Spanish teacher, tennis coach and newspaper ad model. AMT Group's mission is "Developing Global Thinkers!" and their clients include major players in nearly every industrial category. AMT Group offers group and individual coaching on the "soft skills" global managers and leaders need to succeed.
