ON A MISSION-- Fall 2010 Collection by James Michalopoulos

This exhibition looks at the Mission District and shows it to be the rich and varied world that it is. The streets are big, pocked by lonely light littering the landscape. Car action is fast and furious. The clash of civilizations is deftly portrayed.

Michalopoulos is like a sandwich; multi-layered-- you need two hands to grasp him. In his sculpture and painting, the guiding principle seems to be... ROCK ON!!

Characteristically modest, when queried about the energy in his work, he defers to the subject. “I am the medium of a mood. I’m in a dialogue with the painting. The further we go, the more the painting does the talking.”

James Michalopoulos exhibits nationally and internationally, and has galleries in San Francisco, New Orleans, and France. He is currently holding a sculpture exhibition at Chateau d’Ouilly in France through the month of October.

Michalopoulos is the favorite artist of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Foundation and has been commissioned to paint original work for the Jazz Fest poster five times; it is the most collected poster series in the world.
