Taking their name from the Tokyo slang for ‘playful sex’, this New York via Japan quartet specialise in cranium melting, shoegaze- tinged seduction pop. Influenced by Slowdive, Chapterhouse and My bloody Valentine and New York guitar noise acts like Sonic Youth to Yo La Tengo.
Yuki Chickudate and James Hanna are both classically trained and met at The Manhatten Music School. While Yuki was giving paino recitals by the age of 8, James managed to clear the room (including his parents) at his school talent show.
Singing in both in Japanese and a sultry New York whisper, Yuki’s unique falsetto combined with James ‘s dymanic heavy guitar noise, form the core of Asobi Seksu’s huge appeal. With Yuki’s pretty, petit frame set against the dark back drop of blissed out guitar sounds it is easy to see why the band had NY fashionistas salivating and Pitchfork labelling them ‘achingly cool’.
They've got 4 studio Albums under their belts.
The band toured the UK last year with White Lies and earlier this year with a acoustic show.
Their music has featured in various TV shows The L Word, Skins and Ugly Betty and also for Sundance award winning In Between Days by So Yong Kim.
And they're playing for us in Hong Kong as part of their Asian Tour 2010!

ASOBI SEKSU 介紹
ASOBI SEKSU 成軍於紐約布魯克林，樂隊名字來自東京一句俚語, 解作“歡樂的性交“。樂隊的特別之處在於日籍女主唱 （ Yuki Chikudate）的嗓音讓鼓譟的音樂多了一點甜美。Asobi Seksu 經常被樂評人拿來跟一眾shoegaze樂隊如My Bloody Valentine、Sonic Youth、Yo La Tengo作比較。著實讓喜愛shoegaze的歌迷們眼睛為之一亮。
Asobi Seksu除了細膩與狂暴兼容的Guitar Noise是為人稱道的特點，Yuki輪流用英文與日文譜下的歌詞也是樂隊的特色。 Yuki甜美的假聲抗行著結他手James 的 noise guitar，難怪 Pitchfork 標籤他們是‘achingly cool’。
樂隊於2004年發行了首張同名專輯。2006年則在獨立廠牌Friendly Fire推出了第二擊Citrus。 Citrus由 Chris Zane 監制，唱片收錄了由 CSS remix 的 ‘Thursday’。 兩張專輯都獲得 New York Times, Under the Radar, 和 Nylon 大量的好評。
2009 年推出了 Hush， 樂隊脫去層層的 guitar noise，轉移到更為環境式和柔美的 dream pop。 Uncut magazine 給予四星好評，形容專輯是“華麗的流行音樂與藝術朋克的邊緣“。同年出版了一張 Live 專輯，收錄了 Citrus 和 Hush 一些歌曲的 acoustic 版本，也有一些在倫敦 Olympic Studios 收錄的特別歌曲。
去年 ASOBI SEKSU 跟 White Lies 一起在英國巡演，今年年初的時候亦作過一個 acoustic 演出。 ASOBI SEKSU 的音樂曾出現於很多受歡迎的電視劇如 The L Word, Skins，Ugly Betty 和 So Yong Kim Sundance Film Festival 得獎電影 “In Between Days “。
