Some of you may have already heard about this but,
our dearly beloved tyrant-cum-bartender Scott had a terrible accident at the Black Lion two weeks ago.
A plastic beer keg exploded into pieces and injured him very badly.
Some injured parts will heal but the devastating news is that he has lost sight in his left eye.
When things were tough and you were down in the dumps, hating your life,
did Scott ever say to you, “Hey! Forget about it! I’ll buy you a drink!” and lightened you up?
Now it is our turn to put a smile on his face!
Today, on Friday, November 19th, Scott is going to have his second and hopefully final operation.
Let us hope that he'll make a quick recovery and return to the BL with a smile (despite his grumpy self ;) as soon as possible.
Let us believe that a miracle will happen and bring light back into his eyes.
In this hope against hope, we made a thousand cranes.
It is called Senbazuru.
Tsuru, or a crane bird (plural: XXzuru), has been a symbol of longevity along with the tortoise (kame) for centuries.
The former was believed to live for a thousand years, and the latter ten thousand years.
In its contemporary sense, the word "senbazuru" commonly refers to strings of folded-paper (origami) crane birds.
Customarily, one thousand small paper crane birds are folded with a prayer wishing for the quick recovery of a sick person.
The folded paper crane birds are meant to show the maker's care and concern for the sick person.
One origami crane is 500 yen.
Please write a message to Scott (with your name) on the wings.
We will string them together (as it is traditionally done in Japan) and deliver your well wishes to Scott.
We know that many of you who are close to Scott came to the first benefit held last Sunday and already donated very kindly.
This event will be mainly for those who missed it.
Please spread the word to your friends who know Scott and didn't get this email.
He still needs our help (really).
(FYI, Scott doesn't know about this; Momo doesn't know about this. This is our idea, not theirs--in case you're wondering.)
For Scott who's always the first person to help others when they need help, and for Scott (and Momo) who had so much bad luck this year (like, how many times?!),
we want him to feel that the world is not such a bad place, that life isn't that shit, that he really does have friends who care.
So, what do you think?
We really would appreciate your help, your cooperation, and look forward to seeing you (again!).
P.S.
Even if you can't make it to the BL on Nov. 26, a week from now, we will bring the cranes and leave them at the BL as we make them.
Your cooperation and contribution are much appreciated.
Thank you!!!
