Wherever you are, wear blue for one day to raise awareness of our oceans.
Everyday, all over the world, people abuse our oceans and the amazing creatures that live in them. Whales and dolphins are massacred, fish of all species are brutally captured, habitats destroyed, infant seals clubbed to death...this makes me ashamed to be called a human.
South Africans have been fortunate enough not to witness these events happening on our coastline, this does not mean the animals around our coastline will not end up on the coastlines where they will be slaughtered or captured and labelled as property to consume or abuse. Dolphins are the closest if not more intelligent than human beings. Can you imagine being taken away from your family to be held captive and taught tricks to amuse another species and hearing the screams of your family members who were not picked for capture being dragged off to be slaughtered?
Where is humanity when you need them?
By wearing blue on this day you are making a statement by saying I am proud of my country for not allowing this to happen and I stand against this pointless slaughter of our marine counterparts in other countries. It wont cost you a cent and I bet you will look good in blue! :)
So, on the 10th of December, I will wear blue for our oceans.
Are you brave enough to care?
