What started as an homage to my home in London has become a tradition since leaving London and moving to New York.
December 26th is known in the British Commonwealth as "Boxing Day". And it has become my favorite holiday to celebrate - right after Passover and Summer Vacation.
What is Boxing Day?
---------------------------
Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated in England and Commonwealth countries. It officially falls on December 26th, the day after Christmas, or the first weekday following Christmas if Christmas falls on a weekend.
Boxing Day originated in the Middle Ages and is generally believed to have begun with the practice of lords of the manor distributing gifts to the servants and other workers on their lands.
...What?

Okay - so, we don't live in England, but since I am here instead of there, and we are in a Jewish-dominated community, I decided to have a little bit of fun this year by having my own Jewish Boxing Day at my apartment on the 26th.
I am not sure if you will be here for the holiday or not, but this is a private invite - you are one of a hand-selected group that has been invited to join us this Boxing Day.
Your price of admission?
------------------------
I would ask that you bring one more person to the party and you bring something to help with the potluck. Recommendations include: a dessert (Pudding), mulled wine, meat pies, Christmas crackers, some high end chocolate, or some flaky pastries that can be enjoyed by all.
I will provide the strong apple cider and mulled wine and some things that others do not bring. All I am doing is bringing about a chance to have you chat with other friends.
If you would like to bring someone else along, please invite them on the event - all guests are welcome to join.
For other British goodies - check out the English section at Fairway or at Myers of Keswick in the West Village.
Look forward to seeing you!
