ASHOD SIMONIAN
Having garnered achievements in the worlds of indie rock, photography, and film, Ashod Simonian now turns his attention to the alluring realm of design. In this, his first exhibited design series, he has created a collection of Dirty Birds. Inspired equally by vintage pornography and ornithology, these digital collages provide a cheeky take on the English colloquialism, "Birds." The optically playful approach serves as a device to draw the viewer in and reveal a deeper plain of appeal.
Aesop said "It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds." From the old world elegance of the common pigeon, to the comely gaze and punk chic of the isador crested, to the sensual coquettishness of the California quail, Simonian's dirty birds showcase an aviary that invites wonder and delight in the variety of nature.
Ashod and his pomposity reside in Portland, Oregon, where he is a creative for the boutique agency, NORTH.
OLIVIA WARNECKE
A creative person by instinct, Olivia Warnecke studied art and art history at SFSU. Her latest work, a collection of delicate gouache-on-manila pieces, plays off the notion of tagged birds. In the field, ornithologists tag and ring bird species for purposes of scientific identification and to gain invaluable insight into their behaviors and migration patterns. In these colorful portraits, Warnecke "tags" birds as a mark of their individual beauty--capturing their mysterious personalities in surprising ways.
Aesop said "It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds." From the jittery energy of a tiny sparrow to the reptilian gaze and crustacean-like beak of the tufted puffin, to the spiky headdress of the grey crowned crane, Warnecke's tagged birds showcase an aviary that invites wonder and delight in the variety of nature.
Olivia resides in San Francisco, and splits her time between painting, designing, and wandering the streets aimlessly.
