Greetings and Prost! My name is Rich Higgins, and I'm the event director of SF Beer Week 2011. Here at SF Beer Week Central, we're ramping up for a Week that's even bigger and better than Beer Week 2010 was. Last year, thanks to bars, restaurants, stores, and other venues, we put together over 225 unique events, all promoting and celebrating quality craft beer. We can't thank them enough for helping to put the Bay Area's craft beer scene on the map and to keep it fresh in people's minds.
I’m contacting you because your establishment would be a great venue for an event (or two or three) during SF Beer Week 2011. We're currently looking for events for February 12th-19th. Hosting an event is a win-win, since SF Beer Week will help you market your event, you’ll collect the profits from your event, and your customers will enjoy participating in SF Beer Week. Last year’s event hosts are eager to host again in 2011, since they were able to profit from the extra business and publicity from last February.
SF Beer Week 2011 dates:
- Currently: Seeking events and sponsorships
- Early December 2010: Launch of
www.sfbeerweek.org and smartphone apps
- Mid-December 2010: Initial promotional material distributed to event venues
- January 2011: Continual promotional material distributed to event venues and beyond
- February 4, 2011: Event submission deadline
- February 11, 2011: SF Beer Week Opening Gala at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco
- February 12-20, 2011: Hundreds of amazing beer events, including The Bistro's Double IPA Festival, 2/12, and The Toronado's Barleywine Festival, 2/19.
- February 20, 2011: SF Beer Week closes
As you can see from the schedule above, we will begin heavy promotion of SF Beer Week in the coming weeks. Part of promoting the Week includes listing the events and promoting the variety of events to tell the story of the Week. The earlier you submit events to us, the more we can help you promote them!
The event submission deadline one week before SF Beer Week begins – events are due to
www.sfbeerweek.org by February 4. Also, we request an optional $100 venue registration fee to help cover printing, distribution, and design costs to help promote the events. (This fee is per venue, not per event.)
Some event ideas are:
- Food and beer pairings
- Beer dinners (and breakfasts and lunches)
- Collaborative brews and new beer releases
- Beer flights (by style, region, vintage, packaging, process, etc.)
- Open brew days
- Homebrewing demonstrations
- Educational presentations (brewing styles, history, science, technology, art, collectibles, etc.)
- Collaborative efforts with other businesses/experts/artists
- Busing/Biking/Walking Tours
- Anything that enthusiastically celebrates and promotes the quality, heritage, and/or future of craft brewing!
SF Beer Week is the capstone of the Bay Area's vibrant beer community, and it is committed to quality events that present beer in the best light. This means that we are discouraging events such as discounted pint nights and toga parties that are not in keeping with our philosophy of celebrating beer's heritage, craftsmanship, artistry, and worth.
So, on behalf of the SF Beer Week organizers, I hope you'll join me in helping to put on a fantastic SF Beer Week 2011. Please check out
www.sfbeerweek.org for more details and to submit events. Consider sending SF Beer Week website, Twitter, and Facebook info to your email and social media lists. Please email me with any questions, sponsorship inquiries, and event ideas.
Cheers,
Rich
