Event Description:
What if people spoke in Twitter updates? What if we reprinted embarrassing pictures of each other and handed them out to thousands of strangers? Or to co- workers? Social networks have fundamentally changed the way we socialize, so Millennials are increasingly looking for ways to marry their virtual experiences with their real ones. Platforms like foursquare and Meetup bring the online space into our everyday lives, and they’re gaining in popularity. But what exactly does a social network look like?
A series of pre-filmed vignettes would show a wide variety of different scenarios and social networks brought into the real world, developed into a full-blown viral YouTube campaign. The videos will illustrate just how differently social behaviors exist online than they do offline and how this could result in hilarious -- if not absurd -- results in the real world. We’ll follow the series of films with a panel discussion including some of these real-world network developers and behavioral sociologists/psychologists who are exploring how social media is changing the way we socialize.
