Kevy Nova:
http://www.KevyNova.com
Kevy Nova has been playing music for longer than he can remember. It's true. His father, a drummer, dreamed of having a guitar playing son and supplied young Kevy with a plethora of musical toys. According to his Baby Book, on his second birthday he received his “1st set of drums, 3rd guitar & other various toys.” Kevy would often “sit in” at his father’s band practices, watching the guitarists and trying to mimic them with his little red toy guitar. At the age of ten, he started going to his father’s gigs to work the lights. At 13, he was allowed to control the P.A. and finally, at 15, he was asked to join the band. He spent the next three years honing his skills on guitar, bass and drums by gigging weekly in several bar bands until forming his first all original band at the age of 18.

Chinese Melodrama:

Acoustic sensibilities from three wide-ranging backgrounds converge in an homage to the quintessential sounds of American rock music. Randy Bales (guitar, vocals), Cathy Luo (bass, percussion, vocals), and Lisa Chu (violin) bring fresh collaborative energy to their interpretations of cult classics. Their sounds recall a familiar time, with the exciting twist of modern inspiration.

The Worley Birds:
Kevin and Anne Worley, affectionately known as the Worley Birds to Randapalooza, are a couple of singers constantly on the lookout for great songs to sing. From unearthing treasures from little known artists such as Austin's Band of Heathen's and South Carolina's needtobreath, to putting their own spin on songs from the "big guns", Rolling Stones, Collective Soul, etc, Kevin and Anne's performances are always fresh and interesting.

Robert Slye Jr:

Robert started singing in high school Church choir and sang in the Concert Choir at SJSU. He started playing guitar in February of 2009. Over the Fall of 2009, he played in a cover band with friends Zachary Pallin and Brian Jones. He has also performed with fellow musicians Randy Bales, Kevy Nova, Erin Johnston, Genni Williams, Brynn Johnson and Dune Tran. Robert has written a few songs and is still writing more.

The Dirty Wifebeaters:

The Dirty Wifebeaters, named for their uncleaned undershirts and ungroomed appearances, continue an American tradition of anguished songwriting and abusive guitar playing. Primitive like a hobo jug band playing near a muddy creek parallelling a railroad yard, the DWB's wrangle their untamed thoughts and fully-loaded instruments, then allow them to explode into an array of musical styles. Never dull and sometimes frightening the band will prove to be worth your while to see, no matter what music you enjoy.

Friends,
What started off as a simple birthday celebration a year ago for myself and my great friend Maggie has now become an event that I want to have more meaning than just another musical show.
Every time I hear about someone dying from cancer it brings forth overwhelming emotion having lost my own mother to this terrible disease. Now with the recent passing of Auri Nagger it is fresh in our minds the horrible and debilitating effects cancer has on the victim as well as the surrounding lives.
We all know about the great efforts Kevy Nova has made to raise money to fight cancer which is why I am so glad that he agreed to be part of this event.
I have mixed emotion about combining a birthday celebration with a cancer benefit. My thought is just about trying to bring many people together to raise awareness, tell our stories, celebrate life, and raise money for a good cause.
thanks,
Randy
