Interested in making cool, wacky circuits while having fun (and eating free pizza)?
There is an international contest going on right now involving circuits constructed using the 555 timer integrated circuit. It’s called the 555 contest (www.555contest.com), and the Penn Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) wants you to participate! Did we mention there are TONS of awesome prizes? Plus, there’s nothing like winning an international contest to help build your resume.
Come join the IEEE this Saturday 2/5/2011 at 2 PM in the Detkin Lab (AKA RCA Lab and Moore 101) for the Penn 555 Timer Contest Kickoff/Tutorial. There will be free pizza and drinks for all attendees (undergraduates only, please).
Don’t worry if you’ve never used a 555 timer before or if you’ve never even worked with electronics. We will be holding a 555 Timer/Basic Electronics tutorial at the Kickoff event. We’ll also brainstorm possible project ideas and organize multiple teams.
Contest entries are due March 1 and must be submitted online at
www.555contest.com. The IEEE will host lab sessions throughout the month of February to give you lab time to work on your projects.
If you have any questions regarding this event, or the contest itself, please feel free to email upennieee@gmail.com!
