On April 5-6, 2011, the National Park Service will convene a Healthy Parks Healthy People US 2011 meeting of innovators, experts, and visionaries at Cavallo Point – The Lodge at the Golden Gate, in Sausalito, CA. There is a growing body of evidence that open spaces and natural places play a very real role in health. Co-hosted with the Institute at the Golden Gate, the aim of this meeting is to forge new partnerships and strengthen the nexus between public lands and public health.
Several national initiatives, such as the First Lady’s Let’s Move Outside campaign, are already exploring the connections between health and the environment. Our goal is to magnify the potential benefits of parks within these initiatives and illuminate opportunities to partner across sectors. Further, our efforts will be firmly grounded within the National Park Service mission and, as such, will include concepts that promote the health of all species and the planet we share.
