Before the Internet, Wi-fi, mobile technology and chat rooms customers could only communicate with a company by telephone or letter. Customers could only use word of mouth to share their satisfaction or dissatisfaction. In our personal lives, we lost track of college roommates, grade school friends and military buddies. Today, we can share our opinion about anything and everything instantly, and we can find long-lost friends on Facebook or by "googling" them. As we become more connected, how do we keep from losing ourselves in the process?

Explore the positive and negative potential of social media in our professional and personal lives. Panelists and audience members will discuss best practices and potential pitfalls in the increasingly complex task of using and managing social media in today's culture. Join WFAE for our next Public Conversation exploring "Social Media: Taming the Beast."

How is increasing focus on social networking changing the way we do business? What issues should employers address concerning the use of social media by their business and employees? What concerns should employers and job applicants keep in mind? How can a person keep from becoming overwhelmed by or addicted to social media connections? Moderated by WFAE's Julie Rose, the panel and audience will discuss these questions and more.
