THE CITY HAVE CHANGED THEIR TUNE AND ARE NO LONGER TRYING TO STOP THE PARTY. THEY AREN'T "CONDONING IT", BUT HAVE SAID THEY WILL DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO MAKE IT SAFE AND SUCCESSFUL.
THIS NEEDS TO BE RESPECTED, AND THIS IS OUR CHANCE TO PROVE TO THEM AND THE REST OF VANCOUVER (AND THE WORLD) THAT LARGE-SCALE SPONTANEOUS GATHERINGS SUCH AS THIS ONE ARE POSITIVE, COMMUNITY-BUILDING EVENTS.
WE ASK AGAIN THAT EVERYONE PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL: DO NOT LEAVE GARBAGE IN OUR STREETS (EXTRA CANS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED), RESPECT THE PROPERTY OF OTHERS, AND HELP US TO ENSURE THIS REMAINS A POSITIVE, PEACEFUL CELEBRATION.
IF WE WORK TOGETHER, THIS CAN BECOME AN ANNUAL EVENT.
TO BE VERY CLEAR, THE POLICE WERE NOT THE ONES TRYING TO STOP THIS EVENT AND HAVE SAID FROM THE BEGINNING THAT THEY WOULD BE PRESENT TO ENSURE EVERYONE'S SAFETY. GIVE THEM HI-5s AND GET THEM DANCING.
THANKS- THIS IS GOING TO BE AN AWESOME NIGHT!
DON'T FORGET!

The Olympics were the best time Vancouver has ever seen. Millions of strangers converged downtown in a frenzy of positive human energy and had the most fun ever. It was awesome. And it is going to happen again!
Some dudes made this facebook event for a spontaneous patriotic street Party for Feb. 26th and in 2 weeks it exploded to 20,000 people attending:

But it just got moved to Feb. 12th, and since everyone will likely head downtown to celebrate on both nights anyhow, here’s a reminder for the 26th. Please invite EVERYONE you know and together we will once again transform No Fun City into Mo’ Fun City!
And in order to push the fun to the next level, this will also be a Decentralized Dance Party:

The Decentralized Dance Party (DDP) is a portable, battery-powered Party System invented by Tom and Gary, two lifelong friends from Vancouver. It consists of hundreds of Party People, carrying boomboxes, and a DJ who wears a backpack containing an FM transmitter. All the boomboxes are tuned into the DJ’s master FM broadcast, resulting in a mobile, synchronized sound system!
This Portable Dance Party roams the night, generating complete awesomeness, street by street and block by block. Inevitably interfacing with the public, together we create an infectious epidemic of fun that lasts all night long!
This video from one of our 2010 Olympic Parties shows just how much fun it is:

ALCOHOL:
This event is about celebrating Olympic glory and the communal creation of spontaneous fun. It is about enjoying the company of strangers (our fellow countrymen) and living life to the fullest in our public spaces.
Alcohol consumption is not condoned or encouraged. But if you choose to disregard the law and our heartfelt advice, please be discreet (e.g. pop bottles) and don’t ruin this for everyone else. Thank you.
RESPECT:
Be respectful of people and property. If you want this to become an annual event, it is essential that we celebrate respectfully.
THANKS!
