Join the Young Professionals International Forum (IF) as they explore the origins, traditions and importance of Nowruz, the Persian celebration that marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the new year.
Jaleh Pirnazar, a lecturer of Near Eastern Studies at UC Berkeley, will explore why Nowruz, which dates back to Zoroastrianism, the religion of ancient Iran, offers a window into the link between the ancient civilizations of this region and modern day Iran.
The opening discussion will be followed by a reception, which will offer a chance to taste some Persian cuisine from San Francisco's Alborz restaurant. You will also have the opportunity to watch a traditional Nowruz performance danced by students from the Niosha Dance Academy.
IF receptions are a great opportunity to meet people who enjoy learning about and discussing world affairs. If you would like to learn more about the IF or the World Affairs Council, are curious about what they do, and are looking for opportunities to become involved, the IF Spring Reception is the event for you!
This event was developed by members of the World Affairs Council's Young Professionals International Forum (IF) -- a volunteer subcommittee of young professionals with a passion for international affairs.
