Please join TiE Vancouver for an evening of appetizers and presentations from key social media and technology professionals at the Fairmont Pacific Rim. The evening will be lead by moderator Brent Holliday, Head of Technology Practice, Capital West Partners. He will be joined by three special guest panelists; Olivier Vincent, President & CEO, Ziplocal; Boris Wertz, CEO, W Media Ventures; and Ryan Holmes, CEO, HootSuite.
Brent Holliday
Head of the Technology Practice, Capital West Partners
Brent is head of the Technology Practice for Capital West Partners, a mid-market, transaction focused investment bank in Vancouver. He started the technology practice at Capital West in early 2008 after 12 years in venture capital investing in early stage technology companies across Canada and in the US with BDC and Greenstone Venture Partners. Prior to that, in the mid-90's, he was General Manager and co-founder of an Internet start-up. Brent is a long time columnist and commentator on the BC technology landscape and is currently a monthly contributor to BC Business magazine. Brent remains very active in the technology finance community from start-up to late stage financing to public offerings. He currently sits on the Board of VIATec and is a former member of BC TIA and New Media BC Boards. He has an MBA from the University of British Columbia and an Honours B.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario.

Olivier Vincent
Olivier has spent more than 20 years as a senior executive in the technology and local search directory industry in several continents. He recently was the founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Canpages, which was founded in 2006 with HM Capital Partners and sold in 2010 to Yellow Media.
In January 2010, Olivier was appointed CEO of Ziplocal, one of the fastest growing local search and directory company in the US. Olivier also worked for Verizon International in Europe, North and Latin America and Asia for several years.
Olivier has a degree in engineering from École Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées, Paris, and a master of business degree from Haute Études Commerciales (HEC), France. Mr. Vincent is also a member of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) and serves on several Boards of Directors, including DigiBC, the digital and new media association of British Columbia.
Boris Wertz
Dr. Boris Wertz is an Internet entrepreneur and investor and the CEO of W Media Ventures, a Vancouver-based angel fund that focuses on early-stage Consumer Internet investments in the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada. He is also a venture partner with Munich-based Acton Capital, a late-stage consumer internet fund. Before founding W Media Ventures, Boris was the Chief Operating Officer of AbeBooks.com, the world’s largest marketplace for books which sold to Amazon in 2008. Boris joined AbeBooks in 2002 after JustBooks, the German company he co-founded in 1999, was acquired by the company.
Boris successfully finished his PhD as well as his graduate studies at the Graduate School of Management (WHU), Koblenz, majoring in Business Economics / Business Management. In 2005, Boris was the Pacific Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award winner. Boris serves on among others the boards of, Suite101, Fitbrains, Yapta.com, Indochino, Techvibes.com, the Bootup Entrepreneurial Society and DigiBC. Living in Vancouver with his wife Luisa and his two children, he loves the outdoors, reading and traveling.
Ryan Holmes
HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes’ entrepreneurial endeavors include successes in a variety of industries, from founding a pizza restaurant chain to building the top online paintball equipment supplier in Canada before founding Invoke, the agency that created the popular social media dashboard tool.
His interest in tech emerged early after winning an Apple II in an elementary school programming contest. Ryan founded digital agency Invoke Media in 2000 to provide holistic marketing, development and design services. Invoke also developed products including early CMS and e-commerce web apps, the Memelabs contesting platform, and then social media dashboard HootSuite. Rapid growth led to the spin-out and funding of HootSuite in December 2009.
Ryan frequently presents at conferences internationally — including 140tc, OMMA, 140conf, IMA, Open Network Labs — speaking about the evolution of the social web. He is widely quoted in media sources including NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Guardian (UK), and Venture Beat. Personally, he is an enthusiast of yoga, rock climbing, paragliding, surfing and playing with his dog Mika.
